This piece established a dual relationship with architecture, that is, painted architecture and built architecture. It was inspired by the staircase in Raphael’s School of Athens in the Vatican stanze, which depicts the great Greek philosophers. The dimensions of the platform were derived from Johann Conrad Schlaun’s Baroque castle in Münster, in front of which it was installed…. Philosophically speaking, it owes a great deal to [Ludwig] Wittgenstein and American pragmatism. Its main characteristic was to have been empty. It was not the “platform of the philosophers” but an open device that allowed everyone to develop their concepts and interpret it in their own way, which is much more than a philosophical karaoke…. The platform was a popular success. Without my participation, people organized all kinds of events on it: birthday parties, Friday evening sessions, concerts…. The room itself had its own soundscape, consisting of digitally reworked recordings of my body sounds that burst out at random intervals, like a storm. At sunset, a white cloud emerged from inside the center of the illuminated platform. This became the moment at which more than a hundred people met every evening.
